Monday morning, a sunny yet rainy day. The kids did not seem to intrigued to go fishing today, so we though that it would have been a great day to set up a grab trap at the beginning of the day in hopes to catch something interesting to show the kids. It was out third group of kids around 11 am, we headed down to the dock and pulled out the crab trap, and to our surprise there was actually some pretty interesting stuff in there. We had all types of crabs, a rock crab, a green crab, and what really caught the attention of the kids, a spider crab! personally, I was amazed. I never imagined that a crab would or COULD look like that! The kids were even more amazed.

I know that kids, especially kids in the age group of 9-14 are not the easiest kids to get intrigued into most things, especially when it comes to learning, however it was different today. They got learn things about crabs that they never knew, things i never knew ! We learned that crabs cam molt this shells, and we also learned how to identify the difference between a female and a male crab. The kids really enjoyed this part. They started to pick up the crabs and see if they could individually identify the sex of the crab, they were very into the whole experience. They even picked up the spider crab, and touched it. That day i didn't just learn about fun facts about crabs, i learned that a little thing such as a crab can go such a long way in the day of a child.
I'm looking forward to the next thing we can discover with the kids at long island.
See you next time !
